Privacy Policy

Overview
GardenLog is designed with privacy as a core principle. We follow a local-first, privacy-respecting approach where your data stays in your browser.
Data Collection & Storage
What We Collect
None of your personal information is sent to our servers. All garden data stays in your browser:
- Garden layout designs
- Journal entries and photos
- Harvest records
- Task schedules
- Succession planting plans
- Crop rotation plans
- User preferences and settings
Where Data Lives
All data is stored locally in your browser using:
- IndexedDB: For complex data (gardens, journals, harvests, tasks)
- localStorage: For preferences and settings
Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.
Third-Party Services
Analytics
We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how visitors use GardenLog. This helps us improve the tool. Ahrefs collects:
- Page views
- Referral sources
- Device type
- General location (city/country level)
No personal information or garden data is sent to Ahrefs.
Optional Features
Weather Widget (optional): If you enable the weather widget on your dashboard, we fetch weather forecasts from a third-party weather API. Only your general location (city/zip code) is sent to the weather service.
Data Retention
- Browser storage: Data persists until you clear your browser data or delete it within GardenLog
- Export/backup: You can export all your data as JSON for backup purposes
- Account deletion: No accounts exist - simply clear your browser data to remove everything
User Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: View all your data anytime within the app
- Export: Download full data backup as JSON
- Delete: Clear all data from browser storage
- Portability: Import/export data to move between devices
Children's Privacy
GardenLog does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. No personal information is collected from any user.
Changes to Privacy Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
Key Principle: Your garden data is yours. It stays in your browser. We can't access it, we don't want to access it, and we've built GardenLog to keep it that way.
